On behalf of the Duneland Swim Club, I’m very excited to announce we have added two new coaches to the staff for the upcoming season.
Joining existing coach Adam Waldier who has been on the coaching staff since 1998, will be Hope Roberts, who will start her first season of coaching and will be a great addition to the coaching staff. Hope began her swimming career with the LaPorte Turbos Swim Club, before swimming for LaPorte High School where she was a sprinter and where she continues to hold the 50 Free record at LaPorte High School. Hope is a graduate of Indiana University, with a degree in English. Hope and her husband Jason just recently moved back to the Duneland area after living in Washington, DC and Little Rock, Ark. for many years.
Kyle Smith has joined the club as Associate Head Coach and has an extensive coaching background in northwest Indiana. In 1999 he earned a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN.
Kyle began his swimming career at the age of eleven and has been involved in many aspects of the sport since that time. As a young swimmer, Kyle swam for East Chicago Sharks, Highland Hurricanes and Bishop Noll Institute. In 1991, at Bishop Noll, Kyle was a member of the 200m Freestyle Relay that set the National Independent High School Record.
Before joining the Duneland Swim Club he was Head Coach of the Portage Porpoise Swim Club PPSC (2006-2010), Head Assistant Coach for Valparaiso Swim Club, (2000-2002 and 2004-2006).
During his time at PPSC and VSC he helped develop several Individual and Relay Age Group State Champions, as well as, Individual Team Indiana Quad and Zone Team Members. Coach Kyle has been a member of Team Indiana All-Star Coaching Staffs, Central Zone Team 2009, 2010 and 2010 Mid-States/Quad Team.
Coach Kyle also actively serves on the USA Swimming Disability Swimming Committee and is involved with Indiana Swimming Board serving the following positions: Region 1 Coaches Representative, Age Group Committee and Co-Chair for the Indiana Swimming Disability Committee. Coach Kyle is an ASCA Level 3 Age Group and Disability Certified Coach, Certified in American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Certified.
As the Duneland Swim Club continues its growth, these coaching staff additions will best position us to continue to improve our individual athlete and team performance.
Please join me in providing our newest coaches with a very warm Duneland Swim Club welcome.
